Suddenly, Raine had the sense he was being watched. Glancing around, he noticed nothing different in the surrounding area. Raine gave a mental shrug and turned his attention back to getting water.

But the uneasy feeling didn't leave.

Again, Raine looked around the area, noting the gentle breeze making the trees and tall grasses sway. Nothing seemed different, and nothing was wrong exactly, but something just felt off. It was only when he stopped and listened, tuning out the trickling sound of the stream, that he realized what made him uneasy.

There were no birds chirping. No sounds from any of the small creatures he'd always found lively and inquisitive. They weren't making a sound; almost as if they were too afraid to call attention to themselves. Almost like there was something else out there, something far more deadly and dangerous than anything else in the area.

Raine shook his head at his fanciful thoughts. Now he was just letting his imagination run away with him.

Wasn't he?

Still, an uneasy feeling encompassed the area, so Raine finished filling the boot and quickly made his way back toward the cave.

He was about halfway back on his trek, when he heard an angry roar so loud birds jumped out of the trees and flapped into the air. The sound made his blood run cold.

"Ash!"

Dropping the boots, Raine took off running as fast as he could, jumping over roots and through bushes, heart pounding in fear. What had happened in the few moments he had been gone? What had Owen done? Was Owen hurt, had Ash hurt him?

What was he going to find when he got back to the cave?

A million thoughts ran through Raine's mind as he raced back to the cave. He didn't notice the dark shadows behind him, following along at a more sedate pace.

Raine burst through the ivy covering the cave entrance, only to stop in shock. Ash, or the very large, hairy version of his lover, was growling and taking pot shots at Owen, who was backed into a corner, looking terrified. The Beast was back, and he was not happy.

Not at all.

"Stay back," Owen cried the moment he spotted Raine standing at the cave entrance. "He's gone crazy!"

"What happened?" Raine asked, taking a hesitant step forward, only to back away quickly when Ash turned to growl. Owen tried to move away from the raging beast, but stopped and whimpered when Ash immediately turned back and swiped at him with his claws.

"What did you do?" Raine demanded.

Owen glanced over at him like he was the crazy one. "Nothing!"

"Nothing?" Raine scoffed, trying to work his way around Ash so he'd be between him and Owen. Ash swiped his claws at him too, but swung wide and missed. "He wouldn't attack for nothing, Owen. Now what did you do!"

"Nothing, I swear, Raine!" Owen yelped when one of Ash's claws scratched a long gash across the length of his arm. "I was just watching him like you told me, and Ash was super feverish and dreaming.
